The Virginia Health Insurance Marketplace, also known as Virginia’s Insurance Marketplace, is the state-based exchange where individuals and families can shop for affordable health coverage. It was launched in November 2023, moving Virginia away from the federal HealthCare.gov platform to give residents more local control and tailored resources.

Through the Marketplace, Virginians can:

• Compare plans from multiple private insurance companies.
• Access financial assistance, including premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions (based on income).
• Find coverage that meets Affordable Care Act (ACA) standards, including essential health benefits such as doctor visits, preventive care, prescriptions, maternity, and mental health services.
• Apply during Open Enrollment (typically Nov–Jan) or through Special Enrollment Periods (triggered by life events like job changes, marriage, or loss of coverage).

The Marketplace is designed to make health insurance more affordable, transparent, and accessible for individuals, families, and small businesses across Virginia.
