Medicare Enrollment Support
Medicare is a federal health insurance program in the United States for people 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and those with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). The program is administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and consists of four parts: Part A (Hospital Insurance), Part B (Medical Insurance), Part C (Medicare Advantage), and Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage). Beneficiaries can choose between Original Medicare (Parts A and B) or a Medicare Advantage plan (Part C), which is a private company alternative that often bundles A, B, and D coverage along with potential extra benefits.
Who is Eligible?
Medicare is for people who meet the following criteria:
- Age 65 or older .
- Under 65 with certain disabilities .
- Individuals with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), which is permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant.
The Four Parts of Medicare
- Part A (Hospital Insurance): Covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some home health care. Most people don’t pay a monthly premium for Part A if they or their spouse has worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years.
- Part B (Medical Insurance): Covers outpatient care, certain doctor visits, durable medical equipment, and preventive services like flu shots. A monthly premium is typically required for Part B.
- Part C (Medicare Advantage): These are Medicare-approved plans offered by private companies that bundle Part A and Part B coverage, and often include Part D drug coverage. They can offer additional benefits like vision, hearing, and dental services.
- Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage): Helps pay for prescription drugs and is provided through private insurance plans.
How to Get Coverage:
You have two main choices for your Medicare benefits:
- Original Medicare: This includes Parts A and B and is offered directly by the federal government. You can see any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare.
- Medicare Advantage (Part C): You can choose a private company plan that combines the benefits of Parts A and B, and may also include prescription drug coverage (Part D) and other extras.
